Pinstriping

The gen 1 cars lent themselves well to a pin strip down the side. Not sure if the 2014 does it as well. Has anyone tried to do this on a 2014 yet? And if they have, are there any pictures?

Good question.
2014 Soul really needs some adds on the sides to cut the huge expanse of body panel.
I believe the designers were going for a "cleaner" look. They did accomplish that. However,
the sides to many are a bit boring due to no contour in the body or,side molding.IMO,the
2013 had the best balance on the sides. But,you got a 2014,"what to do"?
Seems that pinstripes could be added. The dealership where I bought my 2013,uses a
pinstripe that runs near the top of the front fender, doors, continues toward the rear,
flips up to match the end of shape of the small rear window. There is a rather tasteful
"Kia Sport" logo in that area. The 2014 could have the same approach.I'm sure other
side additions will come out to reduce the look of the sides.I'd like to see a small,
maybe 3/4" chrome molding right below the doors, running wheel well to wheel well.
Some mods on the window pillars&frames may work.I've used carbon fiber(real) covers
on my center B pillars.Just a thin chrome stripe on the tops of the door may work.
On the driver's side, fuel door covers could be used.Personally,I hate any of the cheap
stick- on fake aluminum.chrome look covers.I also covered my fuel door in carbon fiber.
With the titanium paint, the carbon fiber just blends without standing out.It does give
the Soul a more expensive look.ZCF sells these covers.Overall, besides the side pinstripe,
the use of chrome may help. Not being a fan of chrome,I feel on a boxy vehicle like the
Soul, chrome may really work.I'm not talking about going crazy with mirror, pillar covers etc.
But just some accents. All the black out stuff that has been the rage at times makes a
vehicle look cheap.

I have tried to imagine chrome on the car but the only thing I think it lends itself are the door handles because it creates an illusion of a line. The door handles on the 2014 are wider than on the gen 1 and I have not seen any sets of them yet, although I am sure someone on here may prove me wrong. I want to add the lower black door bumper stripe but this is a dark blue car, so the upper accents will not be noticeabe like they are on CITS4K9's yellow. I thought perhaps a white, red or yellow pin strip may add to it but the body metal bends and folds don't really aid in that. The hood, for example bends over the side rather than the flush fit on the gen 1. I would like to do something on the grill also, but my idea is too complicated, I think. I will wait there and see if anything after market pops up, but something may be done to the nose piece. But since the car is so dark, one has to be careful with chrome or it becomes the focus and not the accent.

My dealer put a small pinstripe on, but it was near the top below the windows and I didn't even notice it for the first few days. I'm still not sure if I like it. I attached a photo, if that's what you were looking for.

EDIT: At least I THINK it was the dealer.

Yes, thanks. That certainly helps. I agree it kind of looks out of place with its height and extending onto the hood. I was thinking lower and not on the hood because of the line that hood over lap adds. Perhaps slightly wider or multiple lines that extend the hood break backward and curling at the end like yours currently does.

I like Shaggy's idea. No pinstripe on the hood would look better. :)

The pinstripe can easily be peeled off.

I would take it all off......do it Shaggy's way.

Hey User, take it all off. And if you want, you could run a black stripe from the top rear corner of the repeater to the back. A continuation of the hood line. Like the top black trim cits4K9 has. As a matter of fact, those 3 black upper trim pieces look pretty cool. Just my opoinion.

I agree with you if the car is light enough for them to accent properly. I am not sure they will on the blue, but certainly on yellow, alien 2, titanium they will, not sure about inferno, but black, kale, and the blue, not too sure. On Latte, anything will help.

Saw some videos, even of professionals, suggesting using Easy-Off Oven Cleaner to get rid of painted pinstripes. I think I'd rather pay someone to remove them if it isn't too expensive... Easy-Off on my car makes me uncomfortable.

This worked well a few days ago for the sticker the dealer put on my car, I'm sure it would for pinstripe stickers too.

They are painted on, not stickers WAHHH! I contacted the dealer to ask if they will take them off, we'll see what they say. I was able to take a little off with my finger nail so that 3M eraser should work fine, but I'd rather the dealer do it if they will for no charge. Buttheads.

sorry to hijack your thread Shaggy :)

EDIT: 3M eraser is for sticker pinstripes, not painted :(

...sorry to hijack your thread Shaggy :)...
Did not hijack it, I wanted to find dos and don'ts, everyone's opinions of the pin stripes. Sorry that they are painted on, makes the case for vinyl, doesn't it?

EDIT: And if hijacking threads were a capital offense, I would have the longest sentences.

EDIT: If the stripes are new enough, you might be able to soften them up a little with some solvent and get them off.

My local dealer had a Silver 14 with a double dark gray tape stripe on the lot. It started at the back of the headlights and hugged the hood line, maybe 1/8" to 1/4 above the bottom edge then followed the crease in the body and swept up behind the rear seat windows to the end of that crease about half way up the window. I thought it looked a little strange just ending like that myself but the crease ends there too. Maybe had it been hand striped with something on the tail end it would have looked better?

I would like to have something, both the Jetta we traded in and my F-150 are hand striped by a local artist who does hot rods for a living.

My Gertrude came with double black tape stripes. They were definitely too little, too late, so to speak.

While my tint guy was doing the front windows, I was peeling off the black stripe tape. No problemo.....it came right off.
Then my tint guy put on a single 1/4" wide RED stripe. It definitely gave the car a little 'POP!'.

My last three cars have all gotten the red stripe treatment and they all looked good with it.
Even my dark blue Forenza and my light blue SX4.

Unless it's an optical delusion, the 2014 doesn't have the raised crease down the side like the 2013 does.

Too much of just one color, is TOO MUCH OF ONE COLOR! It does need something to break it up.

The nice thing about tape striping, is that if you put it on and you don't like it, you can just peel it off. No foul!

Changing the look of the rear of the 2014 Soul is going to be complicted if not impossible.
I just cannot figure out why they put all the black framing around the rear. Its just too much.
Ok on a black Soul lol.Seems that some chrome accents are the only thing to break up
all the black.Chrome could be making a come back on cars.Who knows.Things go in cycles.
I've though about the chrome door handle covers myself.Dunno...I've also done the coves
behind the door handles in carbon fiber.Had to use a vinyl wrap since real CF would not be
cost effective.
All in all, still thnk a touch of chrome(faux chrome molding)will greatly add to the look of the Soul.

Wish the chrome caps for mirrors were for the bottom of the mirrors to cover the black and not the top body color part of the mirror.
Be concerned about sunglare from the bug deflector. Sometimes I get behind a vehicle and get blinded by the sun glare off their car.

Here in Florida most local Kia dealers use a local company to put real painted pinstripes on their cars including the Soul. When I bought mine they did not have pinstripes so I contacted the business who paints them and had my Soul done in a two tone blue...here are photos. These are actually painted on and add just enough to make it look cool.

That's exactly the same type and position that my dealer put on mine... but I had them removed. Looks better on yours.
